REFERENCES: U. rigida is often utilized as a fresh sea vegetable by many island cultures for its high nutrient content and fresh taste,  also known as sea salad, has many uses, including food, animal feed, cosmetics, and medicine.. In Azores Is (Portugal), this species is used in cooking to prepare soups and “tortas”; is also consumed in the Mediterranean Basin. Used for several extractions (ethanol or acetone crude extraction, as well as thermochemical sulfated polysaccharides extraction).
