REFERENCES: Occurs throughout Malaysia, this species is consumed raw, described as having a pleasant taste. They are made into a pickle in E Malasia, the seaweed belonging to this species is eaten raw by the native chiefs (Radja’s) as a salad with a little vinegar. This species is also eaten in India (Rao 1970), the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand. Used for human consumption, as fertilizer and insect repellant; contains minerals (Ca, K, Mg, Na, Cu, Fe, Zn); source of algin, tannins and phenols.
