USE: Sargassum myriocystum var. elegans
REFERENCES: Used as food in India, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Moluccas, and Indonesia, eaten raw with lemon juice after being washed. Sometimes the seaweed is cooked with coconut milk. Used in vegetable soup and to make sweetened jellies. The indigenous of Amboina (Indonesia) preserve the seaweeds smoke-dried. Also used in Caribbean Is as food. The seaweed S. polycystum is known for its antibacterial activity and antioxidant and anticancer properties.
