REFERENCES: Used as food in Namibia and South Africa, candied, fried, pickled. Fisher folk along the Cape coast (S. Africa) fill the bulb with seafood, plug the ends with wet newspaper and cook the “food in a bulb” over a fire. Improve water quality, contributing to bioremediation, and even in pharmaceutical applications.
